David P. Condon Attorney
I was born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Marietta, Georgia. After graduating from Furman University with a degree in Economics in 1991, I attended law school at Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.
While I was raised only two and a half hours from Birmingham, Alabama, I was not familiar with the city and had never visited Birmingham until I enrolled in law school here.
I learned quickly what so many others I meet in our office at closings have learned as well – Birmingham is the best place to live and raise a family! During my first year of law school, I decided that I was not going anywhere upon graduation (geographically that is, not professionally).
In 1994, I graduated from law school and went to work for a mid-sized law firm here in Birmingham with the nicest group of people one could work with (and yes, they were lawyers!). I stayed with a law firm for eight enjoyable years and the relationships made there remain some of my closest today.
I actually worked as a trial attorney during this time and enjoyed much of what was involved. However, the desire to work in a non-adversarial area of the law, and be my own boss, led to leaving my law firm and continuing an existing real estate closing practice that a close friend and law school classmate had started. I started to work here on January 14, 2002 and have been here since. My instincts proved correct as I have enjoyed the job even more than I thought I would and find great satisfaction from working closely with so many nice people in our real estate community. I also find it rewarding to work in an office where so many of us enjoy what we do and coming to work every day. And, the litigation experience from those first eight years of practice and the people met during that time have proved so beneficial to what I do now.
I met Ashley Herring, a Mobile, Alabama native, in 1996 here in Birmingham and we married in 1997. Ashley has worked in the hotel and hospitality industry for over 25 years now. She and I have three wonderful children who get along well and provide us with much of our entertainment and social life. We live in Homewood where our two boys attend Homewood High and where our daughter Caroline graduated in 2018. We also have a two-year old Australian Shepherd (Annie) and a six-year old tabby cat (Kitty).
Natalie Carlisle Pre-Closing
Natalie joined our office in 2016 after working for a Birmingham title company the previous 23 years. Full of energy and enthusiasm, Natalie is well-suited in her role in “pre-closing” where she is typically the first point of contact between our office and the real estate agents and lenders involved in the transaction.
Natalie delights in assisting our clients and getting them to the closing table and this is evident whenever you speak with her. It did not take long for her to become an integral part of our office. Natalie and her husband Denny live in the Oak Mountain area of Birmingham and are the proud parents of four children including the oldest Jacob who has served our country as a Marine.
Lauren Malbrough Attorney and Title Services
Lauren was raised in Gadsden, Alabama as the youngest of three girls. She is a graduate of the University of Alabama and Cumberland School of Law of Samford University.
Lauren went to law school knowing she wanted to work in the area of real estate law. While in law school, Lauren worked for a local title company who wisely hired her full time upon her graduation. Lauren developed an excellent reputation there and was then asked to join another title company to start a closing practice from scratch. Organized, efficient and hard-working, Lauren put all of the pieces together to get that closing business not only up and running but thriving. After a few years, she and Dave combined their practices in 2011. Lauren has been an essential part of the office ever since and very popular among the real estate agents and lenders with whom we work. She is both a lot of fun and competitive in the very best way. She is currently working in the title insurance side of the business but still helps out on the closing side as needed. She maintains a great balance while raising three beautiful daughters with her husband Trey (also an attorney) in Mountain Brook. She loves to travel and throw parties for her daughters.
Martha Allen Pre-Closing
Martha is our most recent hire having joined us in 2019. She works in the “pre-closing” side of our office assisting parties, real estate agents and lenders get to the closing table on time and prepared for closing.
She previously worked in a closing office for years handling each file from A to Z and has great knowledge of all aspects of the closing process. She is also a licensed realtor having worked in that business with her husband for years. She is a proud mother of three sons and loves spending time with her grandchildren. We are glad Martha agreed to join our team!
Christy McAuley Closing Statements and Disbursements
Dave hired Christy McAuley in 2006 over lunch at Demetri’s Barbeque in Homewood, Alabama and that one-hour meeting proved to be one of the most significance events in the history of our firm.
Christy has an extensive experience on the lending and legal side of the closing business. Christy could handle well any task in the closing process but she mainly works in the area of preparation of the closing statements (CDs or HUD 1s) and disbursement of funds from closings between “pre-closing” and “post-closing.” Christy does an outstanding job at her busy desk and manages to keep all of the plates spinning while remaining calm and always keeping a positive attitude. Christy is truly invested in her job and goes above and beyond to make sure that our clients’ expectations are met. Christy and her husband Rodney live in Oneonta where they have raised four children with only the youngest still at home. She is also an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.
Dawn Bagwell Post-Closing
Dawn joined our office in 2013 from a local mortgage company where she worked in “post-closing.”
The experience she gained there has assisted us greatly as she manages the “post-closing” phase of each transaction which includes recording conveyance instruments and dissemination of title policies to lenders and buyers after closing.
Dawn brings a great level of commitment to this position and takes pride in doing the job well. She also has an excellent sense of humor and keeps us laughing! She and her husband Jerry have two grown sons and two grandchildren as well. In her role as grandmother, she serves as trip coordinator for the annual family trip to Walt Disney World each spring.
Gil Simmons Attorney
Gil is a native of the Crestwood neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama and a graduate of Woodlawn High School. He is also the proudest graduate of Samford University you will ever meet.
He has a servant’s heart and has served Samford University in numerous leadership and volunteer roles since his graduation in the early 1980s. Gil and his wife Leigh were law partners in their own practice for years and years before Gil joined our office in 2016. Gil’s practice has always been devoted to real estate closings and he was therefore a great find for our firm. Gil is a professional who is caring and meticulous. Away from the office, Gil is a dedicated friend to a group of college friends who travel together attending football games and bluegrass concerts around the Southeast. Gil and Leigh have two daughters and one son and live in the Liberty Park section of Vestavia.
